Peas

The pea is the oldest cultivated plant of the legume family and has been grown for over 5000 years. Initially the use of dried peas predominated but from the Middle Ages onwards, peas were increasingly eaten green. As a result, the various forms such as the sweet wrinkled peas, the robust round peas or mangetout and sugar snap peas - which are eaten whole - arose.
