Insect and bee friendly varieties

Insects are a central part of our food production and indispensable for ecological balance. However, bee and bumblebee species have had massive problems in foraging for food in recent decades. Part of the reason for this is the dwindling proportion of wildflower meadows and flower-filled fallow land in today’s cultivated landscape. Flowering green areas in our gardens can make an important contribution here.

Rudbeckia - Rudbeckia hirta

Rudbeckia originates from North America and is well suited for cutting and drying. For the former it is best to wait until the stem has fully hardened.

Robust medicinal, herb and ornamental aromatic plant from the Mediterranean. An undemanding plant, rue is very decorative with its yellow flowers and blue-green leaves. Grows 40-70cm tall and grows woody lower down.

Siberian Wallflower 'Primrose Dame' - Erysimum cheiri

The fragrant flowers change color from lemon yellow to light yellow, which is very attractive. After being sown in summer, the plant can be easily overwintered outdoors. It is one of the first spring flowers of the year. About 50 cm high.

Important perennial medicinal plant, will grow to approx. 80 cm in height. Flowers from 2nd year onwards. Loves full sun. Owing to fungal infection risk (fusarium), maintain long term crop rotation. Cultivation and transplanting in small clumps is recommended.
