ECHINACEA ANGUSTIFOLIA

hp44 (Echinacea angustifolia)

The narrow-leaved coneflower from the plains of America was traditionally used as a medicinal plant by the indigenous peoples of North America. In modern naturopathy, Echinacea is said to have properties which boost the immune system. Usually the attractive flowers, which attract numerous insects, do not appear until the 2nd year. This perennial herbaceous ornamental plant has a compact growth and is hardy. In contrast to the purple coneflower, this species is only 10-15 cm high and prefers dry locations.

Lifespan: herbaceous perennial
Comment: cut flower, needs to be started indoors
Positive for pollinators: yes

Explanations

Bee-friendly: This plant has a good nectar or pollen supply, which is especially good for honey and wild bees, as well as other pollinating insects. There are 500 different kinds of wild bees alone. Some crops are best approached by specialists, others by generalists.
